New paragraph
Families need different things. It’s true, depending on family make up, household income, geography and other factors- not all families are the same. We see this in our work every day supporting thousands of rural families in West-Central Wisconsin. One shared concern we often hear is about the growing cost of high-quality childcare. According the the US Department of Labor Issue Brief on Childcare Prices, families in rural counties spend on average $5,288 dollars per year, per child on care for school age children. This represents about 8.8% of the average household’s annual income.
More local families are choosing Boys & Girls Clubs over traditional childcare. One of the main reasons is we offer more than a safe environment. At the club youth get hands-on support with homework, build new skills and interests, and have access to service learning opportunities.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of West-Central Wisconsin is proud to be one of the most affordable, high-quality options for parents & caregivers. Afterschool membership costs $24 per year per child ($24 after school and $75 per week during summer), which is one-tenth of cost of traditional childcare for school age children. In addition, we work hard to raise funds to provide scholarships to families and youth who need us most.
